The Holiday Spirit

I don’t know what it is this year, but I am ALL IN. I am feeling the holiday spirit. I always enjoy the festive season, but I thought with both kids away at school, I maybe wouldn’t want to go all out with decorations and events that they would only be able to enjoy for the few days they are home. But then I remembered, Jason and I ALSO love the holidays and went all out even before the kids were born. So now, I’m enjoying all my decor and treats and will have renewed excitement when the kids arrive home to enjoy it, as well.

I usually stay away from Hallmark Christmas movies simply because they are SOOOO cheesy. But I have jumped on board with the fare from all the streaming services, and maybe a Hallmark movie or two has eeked itself into my viewing. These films are just. so. cozy. It’s hard to resist my fireplace, a mug of tea, christmas lights, and a cozy movie. While the cat curls up in my lap! Come on! I surrender to the joy.

But I will have to say that one film has thrown me a little with the cute man’s push for a hot chocolate date. He asks her out multiple times, always for hot chocolate. Even the lovely protagonist seems to say with her eyes, “What’s up with this guy repeatedly trying to take me for hot chocolate?” Don’t get me wrong. Hot chocolate is delicious. But it seems that most people would be like, “Want to grab a cup of coffee?” This man only mentions hot chocolate. “Come on, pretty lady, let me know when you are ready for us to go for that cup of hot chocolate.” I know. It’s a festive Christmas movie. Hot chocolate gives festive vibes. I vowed to let the aggressive hot chocolate weirdness go and just try to enjoy the movie.

Then my sister texted me. “I’m watching this Christmas movie and, like, what’s the deal with all these movies and hot chocolate? The hot guy is going on and on about it.” See! I’m not the only one. I’m starting to wonder if Swiss Miss is backing some of the films.

All that said, I say dive into the season as you can. Embrace the chill, snuggle up with a blanket/person/animal/all three. Watch some silly movies. And, now that I consider it, maybe have some hot chocolate. I’m kind of craving it.
